The Skin You're In – The Perpetual Art Machine
The Skin You're In Difference
The thing that makes us different from all the others out there is that we are taking a new approach on the subject of art as a business.
We started The Skin You're In to help defray the costs of making art, as opposed to making money by being catchy or through trend-spotting. The Skin You're In is a joint venture by a group of artists undertaken in order to sustain our creativity. We aren’t out to get rich by doing this; we want to make enough money to keep doing it- and doing it well.

Company Policy
Our approach puts creators first, and at the same time, has a healthy respect for the bottom line. Instead of “suits” hiring (and underpaying) creators and taking the larger part of the rewards for themselves, we have essentially hired ourselves.
Furthermore, by putting any profits back into the business, we allow ourselves to continually make more and more art. We are very interested in working with other artists, creating products based on their own artistic sensibilities, and compensating them according to their worth. Our creations are valuable, and we respect the value of other people’s works.

Working With Other Artists
Our practice is complete transparency in our dealings with others. We have dealt with the veils of legalese and intellectual property grabbing which pervade modern business practices, and quite frankly, we are tired of it. Rather than purchasing rights or transferring ownership, we seek to borrow (for lack of a better word) the ability to print other parties’ images.
We do this with the understanding that the creators are always in full control over the use of their works, and are entitled to part of the profits that they generate. In the event that someone decides that they no longer wish to let The Skin You're In use their creation, they are able to take it (and any rights attached to it) with them, without penalty.
In this way, The Skin You're In acts as a conduit, allowing talented individuals access to markets that they might never otherwise be able to break into. We aim to expand this aspect of our business model, as it will not only increase our catalog, but it will allow more people to get their work “out there.”

Our Hands-On Approach
None of our wares are outsourced or produced by anyone outside of The Skin You're In collective. Every item we sell passes through the hands of one of our collective at each stage of production, from concept to printing.

How We Save You Money
In the interests of keeping operating costs down, we do not maintain large inventories of any one product. In fact, many of our designs never grace a shirt until actual orders are put in. This streamlined business model allows us to experiment with possible trends and influences in the world of t-shirt design, while costing us very little at the same time.
As a result, we are able to pass on this lowered cost to the customer. Since we take so many steps to keep our operating costs so low, we do not have to inflate our prices to compensate.
